FOX News

Whenever I see clips from FOX News, I tend to worry about our American neighbours down south. This “fair and balanced” news station feels more like some kind of republican propaganda machine that tries it’s best to cause as much separation from left to right instead of just reporting news. Obviously not everybody that works for FOX News is some kind of evil doom-bringer, but they do have a few slightly insane hosts who grace the screen such as Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly. Now these two guys have the right to say whatever they want, which is fine, but what terrifies me the most is the massive following these two have, and thus makes me a little afraid of Americans.

White House Communications Director Anita Dunn was recently quoted as saying “The reality of it is that Fox News often operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party” and “They’re widely viewed as part of the Republican Party. Take their talking points, put ‘em on the air.” [source]

Recently FOX News has also been promoting it’s so-called “Tea Parties”, gathering together questionable groups of people to get them on film while they send FOX employees to rouse the crowd for some good TV [source]. That is not reporting, that’s basically creating their own news for their own agenda. Ministry of Truth doesn’t sound too far off at this point.

But enough of my ranting, I’ve included a few video clips from FOX News that show off a bit of their right-wing agenda and what I believe to be mean spirited nastiness that lies behind some of these on-screen personalities.

The Toys We Loved

Toys!

Toys!

What was the greatest thing about being a kid? I think we can all agree it was the toys, although not having to pay rent and do laundry was also a bonus, but it’s the toys that made us smile. There was no better feeling than ripping open a box on Christmas morning and getting a shiny new Transformers action figure or a stuffed Alf, it was pure excitement and joy. Most of us have left those toys behind but I’d imagine we’ve all innocently walk through the toy aisles in Walmart just to see what’s there every now and then.

So let’s get to it, the best of our childhood toys from the 80′s and 90′s, and maybe a few recent ones as well. Just because we’re old doesn’t meant we can’t enjoy them now, and we can also use the excuse of being a “collector” when it comes to buying new toys. I must admit that I’m guilty of “collecting” Transformers lately as I have re-released versions of Starscream, Hot Rod and Optimus keeping guard in my living room at the moment. But enough about me, let’s get to the toys!

Let’s Talk Movies

Lets Talk Movies!

Seen any good movies lately?

Lots of great movies have been coming out in the last year or two, and a few not so great. I’d like to take this time to throw out some recommendations and talk about some of the flicks I’ve seen lately. If you’re like me and tend to avoid the theatres, you may have missed a few of the newer movies, but of course, that’s what the internets are for! Let’s get right to it and talk about some favourites from the past year, and maybe a stinker or two.

Hack the Gibson!

We all have gadgets that do neat things, but those gadgets can usually do even better things if you learn to hack them a little bit. In this first installment of Random Hacks, I’ll point you to some great guides and give you some tips on how to modify your Wii to let you install homebrew applications like SNES & Genesis emulators with full libraries of games, modify your PSP to do the same for on-the-go old school action and show you the magic of automatic TV torrenting so you can finally ditch that expensive cable connection.
